April 4th 2008 - Rokker Radio

I got an email about Rokker radio - a radio station for gypsies and travellers being closed down. I've signed the petition to keep it open - it's the only one and why shouldn't gypsies have their own station, like all other ethnic minorities. If youa gree click and sign the petition yourself!

This is the article and here's the website http://www.petitiononline.com/rokker08/petition.html

HANDS OFF ROKKER RADIO

Rokker Radio, the weekly programme produced by, for, and about the Travelling and Roma community, is

facing possible closure. Rokker Radio plays a vital role keeping Gypsy/Traveller/Roma views alive and on the public agenda, it allows members of the community to stay in touch, debate and be informed.

It also provides a wealth of music, talk and entertainment steeped in a culture reaching back centuries and moving forward rapidly.

Many, many people, both Traveller and non Traveller tune in live to the broadcast and others who live outside the broadcast area (who were hoping the service would ultimately go national)listen to the programme on line.

In addition the programme provides an important link and source of information for professionals and advocates in, and for the Gypsy / Traveller / Roma communities.

Costs to run the programme are comparitively low and considering that it is the only programme either on radio or television serving one of Britain's oldest ethnic minorities the show provides real value for money.

In the interests of the community it serves and the wider community we really cannot allow this small but significant service to be axed.

From local news and events, to the World Service, to reporting from war zones and Children in Need the BBC has a unsurpassable reputation for fairness, truth and just representation - to get rid of Rokker Radio would constitute a great injustice towards a community which has put up with far too much already. Therefore, we wish to express our opposition to any such action.

April 1st - Prize Winners!

Here they are, the lucky lucky prize winners from Longslade. There were four book prizes and the winners are Sonal Bhundia, Emma Richards and Ellis Jones and the absentee is Spencer Lyon. The teacher presenting the prizes is Beth Lever Head of Key Stage 4

Thanks again Longslade for a great week.

March 10th - Thanks Longslade!

Had a great week at Longslade School. longslade staff Longslade is a specialist Technology
College, which meant I could run my presentation on a digital projector. It looked great on the big screen. So, a big thanks to Teresa Drewry for inviting me. And to Simon for making sure my presentation ran. And to Kathryn Benbow and Debbie Chambers in the library for my fantastic display.

February 28th - Trembling

ISo everyone else felt the earthquake - but why didn't I? Either our house is built on the most solid rock in the world or we're heavy sleepers. Apart from that I've been busy writing - finished one earlier called Feral which is futuristic updating of the were wolf myth. Feral, the lead character has been bred especially to withstand a coming disaster. She has dual DNA and can change into a wolf. And I'm now writing one called Holy Bones, featuring a dangerous guardian angel. After that I've made notes for another book, tentatively called Cuckoo. But more of that later.

February 21st - Longslade

I'll be at Longslade School Birstall for Book Week. Those poor kids have got to put up with 15 minutes of me each day! but I've got a power point presentation with video, sound and animation, so it should keep them interested. And if they can complete my fiendish wordsearch, they can win a FightGame book as well.

February 19th - July

FireFight, the next book in the Freedom Smith series is out July, we'll be putting the book cover on soon. I'm thinking of doing some sort of Screamer as a promotion - because the story involves a Screamer which causes kids to disappear. If you've never seen a Screamer, google it.

January 20th - big TV

We've got a new TV at last. Our other one was on the blink. We've got a flat screen one now, and I love it. So does everyone else in the household. So far it's got a wii, an xbox and a pc attached to it. It really is a multi media sensation. It's amazing how fast things change. When I was a kid we had three channels on a black and white tv and that was that!

December 24th December 2007 - Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas to all of ya. Tomorrow we'll be eating and drinking, opening presents, then a party at night, with all the usual games including playing Soldier of Fortune - we've got four computers linked up and there are seven or eight people taking turns - look out for us if you're on line - we play as the Source of all evil clan.

Have a good Christmas and I'll be back in the New Year. Tataa.

December 12th December 2007 - New Book

It's been a busy week. I'm finishing a couple of new books, and I'm just doing a final check of the second FightGame book, which is called FireFire. It's another adventure for Freedom Smith. This time he ends up in Malta. I used to live over there and its a great place. But so weird underneath. It's got some of the oldest temples in the world, and lots of mysteries. It will be out in July next year, and as soon as I get hold of the cover art work I'll put it up on the Books page. By the way, thanks Sam and Oliver from London for the art work. Love it. I'll get it up on the art pages as soon as poss. Must go and do some Christmas shopping.

December 2nd 2007 - Virtual Me

It's sunday, it's raining and it's dark. This is the sort of day that I used to end up watching the wrestling on black and white TV when I was a kid. At least now you've got more than two channels, you've got the internet, computer games, consoles, DVDs and PSPs.
You don't know you're born, you lucky lot!

Well, this is the first blog I'm writing. It's a sort of test piece. We've rejigged the website to include a page for teachers. Because I've now got a presentation that can be used in schools. The idea came to me after I did a presentation last month to library staff. Everyone liked my Powerpoint presentation. It's got video, photos, the works, which saves me from yagging on and talking too much. Then I got invites to talk at other schools, but some were too far away so I thought - what about a Virtual me. I already had the presentatiion, but we're also doing a Virtual Author programme for next year.
